Twenty20 cricket had an immediate appeal. 90 minutes for each inning with a short break keeping games all done around 200 minutes. Much more exciting and quick than traditional cricket matches.
The IPL has been slow. And now in the 11th season of the IPL the games have been getting extended well beyond what the twenty20 format intended.
Cricket betting experts have raised concerns on the slow pace this season. They say that the pace will decrease the entertainment value of the league.
Peter Borren, former Netherlands captain tweeted that the tactic of slowing down the pace by side trailing has gone un-noticed. The teams are using this to halt the momentum of whomever is batting.
It seems like the umpires need to start paying more attention to the game. Some teams are actually planning to send off their slow fielders and have their better fielders on the park. This consumes time and the tactic of substitutions are being heavily used this season.
